We are a Houston based soy wax candle company, ran by married couple Daneille and Malik Moss. The purpose of our candles are to display some complex truths about hardships currently faced by black and brown communities while simultaneously encouraging calming effects of aromatherapy. Some of the quotes are humorous and light-hearted while some touch on more serious issues. Our purpose for placing these quotes on candles was to call attention to the need for self care even as we navigate some of the issues going on in our communities.
How are you impacting your community?
Lonez has allowed us to give back in amazing ways. We have partnered with Elite Girls Mentoring Group in the past to teach a candle making class for the young female students. We have also partnered with Houston influencer Don Mcghee to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. We are proud of what Lonez has allowed us to our community up to this point and we strive to do a lot more.
What advice would you give to someone looking to follow your path in the industry?
Stay the course. This journey is a constant education and a constant bout of trial and error. You will cycle through a million different wicks, votives, and formulas before you have your candle dialed in; and even then you’ll still most likely make adjustments along the way. Entrepreneurship is also full of high moments, low moments and quiet ones. Treat the highs and lows the same as in don’t relish in any one moment too long. Remain diligent and consistent in your work and it will carry you to where you want to go and keep you there.
What separates you from your competitors?
We make our candles to deliver an experience outside of just enjoying a fragrance. We want to stimulate conversation and bring people together through understanding. Our candles offer quality scents, conversation and a playlist for you to bop to!
