Hidden Legend of Dallas: Mike X

Born in Muskegon, Michigan January 15, 1982, almost immediately moved to Dallas, Texas with my family (B.C.=before crack)...after the crack epidemic hit my parents we moved around a lot, around Dallas, to Atlanta, Georgia until we settled in Lansing, Michigan where I spent my teen years...by 13 I was in the streets, by 15 full time, and by 18 I was sentenced to 16-40 years in prison, of which I served 15 years (I filed my own appeal for early release)...Upon my release in August 2015 I’ve started 5 businesses (3 of my own), started a podcast and done several outreach events in Michigan and Texas...at this point I’m working on revamping my company and continuing to work on developing anyone that comes in my path...

How are you impacting your community?

My impact in the community spans several directions; as a music business executive I give opportunity to youth with an outlet (and funding) to record, release music...as a Prison Reentry Expert/podcast host (17 Winters) I impact the community by connecting with currently incarcerated individuals allowing them to speak and have their issues heard through digital media...

What advice would you give to someone looking to follow your path in the industry?

OWN YOUR BRAND, OWN YOURSELF...ownership is key to leverage, longevity and legacy...NEVER relinquish your power...

What separates you from your competitors?

I have no competitors, the American dollar is literally printed and burned daily and in this digital age there is enough money for everyone to win...so I guess what separates me is my genuine desire to see us all succeed...
